Pedicab Print

 

The Pedicab is a three wheeled vehicle used for transportation in Yogyakarta and is in abundance. The pedicab is available to locals and tourists alike. Pedicabs have cheap fares and are said to be a comfortable ride and the operators are more than willing to take you where ever you want to go. This makes the Pedicab the first choice for most people when it comes to transportation within Yogyakarta. Yogyakarata is also a pedicab city because of its large population.

 
Sumur Gumuling, an Underground Mosque in Kraton Golden Era Print

 

Only some people know that the building down there which is named Sumur Guluming was a usable mosque in the golden era of Kraton Yogyakarta. The words “Sumur Gumuling” mean a well that is surrounded by an Islamic congregation. The leader of the prayer does not need a speaker since the circular construction cause echoes that make his voice heard louder.

 

 

To get there you have to pass the gate. Long time ago, Sumur Gumuling had two gates. Both were the edge of the tunnel leading you to the well. These days the west gate is just a remnant, and the tunnel has fallen so that it is impossible to go through it, while the east gate is still in a good condition and everybody can pass through it.

Did you know...

Tugu Jogja now is different with the one long time ago. Its height used to reach 25 meter, while back in time it used to be 15 meter. A third part of the old Tugu Jogja has collapsed in 10 Juni 1867 since there was a great earthquake in Jogja. Then it was renovated in 1889 by the Dutch administrator.
