The making of wayang is closely related to a carving art. In this craft, the object that is being carved is the buffalo's skin. It is used because it has a strong skin quality.

The making of wayang, especially one for the performance must use the pakem (certain rules) that has been settled. While the making process is different depends on the wayang's size and its character. The first step is drawing its pattern in a piece of buffalo's skin. Later on, the pattern is being carved. One of the equipment used in this process is dlingan, which is used to cut the skin. After the carving process is done, the design is being rubbed or scoured using a kece. The last step is colouring its design using paint.

One of the craftsman that Kraton has is Bapak Sugeng. He had started that business for about twenty years ago. His wayang gallery lies in the Taman Sari tourist object. That gallery, which is also functioned as a house, keeps lots of wayang's characters from his product. It is often visited by foreign tourists who want to know about wayang more and how to make it.
