Dalem – a term for a king’s residence – was built in 1855 in the reign of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono V and at first occupied by KRT Suronegoro until he passed away in 1911. This Dalem is now called Dalem Kaneman according to the name of its current owner who is GKR Anom Adi Brata, the first daughter of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and KRAy Pintokopurnomo. Beside being used as a residence, Dalem is often used as a place for various activities, such as dancing course ran by Among Beksa Foundation. Dalem is also frequently used to serve the tourists dinner and dance.
Dalem which lies to the south has an adequately wide pendapa in the front part with complete set of gamelan. Some pendapa is partitioned and used as a dressing room for the dancers. Besides pendapa, there is pringgitan which is used to perform wayang kulit as some Javanese traditional houses are also used. (Pringgitan was derived from a word ‘ringgit’ which means wayang). Something that is directly connected to pringgitan is the main house or the middle room and three senthong (bedrooms) – senthong kiwa/left senthong, middle senthong, senthong tengen/right senthong. In the east part of the middle room, there is a room used as a family museum contains various family objects including family photos.
At the camp of Dalem Kaneman, i.e. on the right and left side of the main house and pendapa, live the heirs of abdi dalem descendants who have magersari (given a right to live by the owner of dalem). The whole magersari members of society are included in two administrative units or RT (Rukun Tetangga). |
